Summary:Recounts the life story of Mississippian Fannie Lou Hamer and of her part in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Born a sharecropper's daughter in Mississippi in 1917, she had picked cotton as a young child, yet became in her middle age a Voting Rights activist, helped to organize Mississippi's Freedom Summer, and was a civil rights leader.
