Summary:Author, medical professor, and pediatrician Dr. Lillian M. Beard was born in Brooklyn, New York. In 1965, she completed her B.S. degree at Howard University. From there, she attended Howard University College of Medicine, earning her M.D. degree in 1970. Upon completing her internship and residency at Children's Hospital National Medical Center in 1973, Beard worked as a Community Pediatrics Fellow sponsored by the Program for Learning Studies and the Comprehensive Health Care Program of the Child Health and Development Department at George Washington University. Beard held faculty appointments at George Washington School of Medicine and Howard University College of Medicine. She was named one of Washingtonian magazine's Top Doctors, and was a contributing editor to Good Housekeeping magazine. She received eight Physician Recognition Awards from the American Medical Association. She also held a number of leadership positions with organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics.
