Summary: | This book traces the history of textile design in Peru, from Pre-Hispanic times to present days, including the "tapadas" (veil-clad women) from the colonial period. The author documents the main techniques used in weaving, embroidery and dyed, with an extensive iconographic catalogue of Andean and Amazonian origin designs. The book also illustrates traditional attires, some already forgotten and others still in use, as well as the most important and genuine regional costumes and the new trend of ethnic fashion. Author Olga Zaferson Aranzaens (b. Juliaca, Peru 1945), is a teacher, folklorist, researcher and ethnic Peruvian fashion designer, with more than 35 years dedicated to research of the Andean Pre-Hispanic and mestizo culture, in particular their textile art, transforming it into contemporary designs that show the fusion of the new and emerging Peruvian society. The author, in addition to teaching at different universities and institutes of prestige, devotes her efforts to preserve the Amazon and Andean textile tradition offering workshops in rural and ethnic communities of Peru. Olga Zaferson Aranzaens is also one of the most prestigious Peruvian designers.
