Description
Summary:The Absence of Things
The »Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin«, a weekly supplement, recently devoted a whole page to Florian Slotawa's »Hotelarbeiten« from 1999; black and white photographs in which the artist photographed hotel furniture which he had placed against a wall. The news-paper reported that it was one minute a bed, then suddenly a cave; one minute furniture, now it's art.

Florian Slotawa had already initiated a series of »studio photographs« in 2009 in which he brought together a total of thirty-two motifs. The series is now presented for the first time in its entirety in this lavishly produced book, which rigidly adheres to the artist's overall design. Florian Slotawa's photographs emphasise an »absence of things« in their strictly documentary delivery and thus enhance the objectness of the building, as well as the details with doorplate, electric socket or pipe work to become sculptural elements.

Exhibition:
Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, Remagen: 27/10/2012-1/4/2013
