Digital humanities in practice /

This collection of related essays provides an overview of digital humanities practices, structures, and methodologies. Most of the contributors are connected to the University College London Centre for Digital Humanities (UCLDH), one of the premier digital humanities centers in the world. The essays offer an overview of many common digital humanities (DH) methods and practices (including digitization, image processing, 3D recording, text encoding, and historical bibliography), along with studies of DH users and communities. Each chapter opens with a summary of recent research conducted on the subject or method, with a particular emphasis on research conducted by UCL. Chapters each provide several case studies of the method in practice or cases demonstrating an application of the recommendations. The work is bookended by essays describing research on the DH community--specifically DH user studies, and institutional models in the digital humanities. These contributions reflect the information studies home of UCLDH and provide critical background for practical development of DH programs and services.
