Review by Library Journal Review

In his foreword to this captivating collection, Keith Richards discusses "the moment"-"You have to know the moment before it happens. To sense it, to feel it." From Elvis's postarmy return in 1960, through Beatlemania, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock, and MTV, to the present, Regan demonstrates that more than merely chronicling popular music, he has had a hand in finding that magical quality in his subjects that both develops and explains our fascination. Much of the included work will be familiar, as it has appeared in periodicals such as Time, Rolling Stone, People, Newsweek, Life, and Entertainment Weekly. Particularly interesting are the sessions with the Rolling Stones and Madonna, who demonstrate an aggressive eagerness to embrace the camera and viewer. The stories behind the shoots, which include seminal rock events such as George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh and the Band's Last Waltz, are as engaging as the pictures. Verdict This comprehensive and absorbing collection of five decades of photographs of the key figures in popular music demonstrates Regan's assured sense of timing. A definitive chronicle of the time.-Bill Baars, Lake Oswego P.L., OR (c) Copyright 2012. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
