| Summary: | The movement and circulation of coinage in Antiquity followed patterns that remain poorly understood and have received little study. While the number of hoards and of coins from excavations continue to multiply, the evidence they provide is ambiguous and some conclusions even seem to be contradicted by occasional references in texts. These contributions from the conference Nomisma aim to provide a firm documentary foundation for comparing the numismatic and textual evidence, interpreting the circulation of a city's coinage in different periods, and understanding the presence of foreign coins at various sites. |
