Summary:Vienna's richest man decides to enjoy a classical opera (Ariadne auf Naxos) together with a musical comedy to entertain his guests, much to the horror of the opera singers and composer. Theseus, who has been saved from the labyrinth by Ariadne, abandons her on the desolate island of Naxos. Unhinged by grief, she calls on Death to release her from her suffering. The comedians in the parallel opera buffa try to cheer her up, saying that there are plenty more fish in the sea. Enter Bacchus, and Ariadne's longing for death is transformed into readiness to yield to love.

Description
Summary:Includes the members of the Opera Chorus Studio of the Sachsische Staatsoper Dresden and features Susan Anthony; Iride Martinez; and Sophie Koch, with Sir Colin Davis conducting.
This unique opera is a gently satirical artistic debate contrasting the artificial conventions of opera seria with the direct, knockabout humour of the commedia dell'arte.
