This introduction to economic analysis under uncertainty covers most areas of microeconomics. The main topics covered are expected utility theory; the theory of firm including production and price uncertainty; portfolio choice; state-contingent and futures markets; insurance markets; quality uncertainty and signaling; and searching for information. Specific examples contain the essence of the more general models, and the end-of-chapter bibliographic guides provide links with existing sources for further studies. The book is suitable for use in a variety of undergraduate and honors courses. At the graduate or professional levels the book may well be used when the reader requires a somewhat gentler introduction to the subject than is currently available. The book is recommended for undergraduate and graduate libraries. McKenna (University College, Cardiff) is also the author of Uncertainty and the Labour Market: Recent Developments in Job Search Theory (CH, Oct '85).-G.A. Kondor, Lakehead University
