Summary:Research findings on the background of the arrival of cinema in Mexico in 1896. The author examines the most remote referential aspects related to optical mechanisms, such as the Magic Lantern, the cosmorama, the diorama and many other optical technology and projection machines popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, including the "Phantasmagoric spectacle" offered in 1809 in Veracruz by American-German illusionist Andrew Oehler, an optical effect regarded as diabolical and that send him 6 months to prison.
