Foyles war. Set 2 /

This second set of videos from Britain's ITV includes footage not seen in the Masterpiece Theatre broadcasts on PBS. These episodes continue to follow the fall 1940 exploits of Inspector Christopher Foyle of the Hastings Police, recently appointed to investigate war-related crimes in southeast England during World War II. Murder mysteries (yes, at least one per episode) are placed within the wartime setting of rural Sussex, on the English Channel, also on a direct route for the London blitz. All episodes are intricately plotted, well acted (Foyle is played by Michael Kitchen), and set in carefully crafted, detailed period scenes complete with the lorries and limos of the era and even a few Spitfires flying by. These films touch a nostalgic note as wartime difficulties seem often to be approached though the British sense of duty, justice, and morality. Fittingly, romantically, the mature persevere and youth triumphs through bravery, hope, love, and exuberance.
