Summary:An exhibition of the famed video art of Juan Downey (b. Chile, 1940- d, New York, 1993) beginning with his 1973 Trans America work. Juan Downey distinguished himself from other New York artists of the 1970s because he was Chlean (by was of Washington, D.C., Paris and Spain) multifulturalism and pos-colonial discouse began to concentrate on video. He became a master of the medium before his early death in 1993. His videos, maps and installations offer a diasporic perspective of an experience of coming and going, a real or metaphoric journey between two or more places, describing processes of migration, translation and instability as articulators of identity.
