The latest edition of these familiar guidelines for writers of dissertations and theses is warranted by the 13th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (1982), on which the examples of style usage are based. It has several new features-notably a chapter offering a general overview of manuscript preparation on computerized word processing systems; a chapter on parenthetical references and reference lists; 28 annotated sample pages; and a list of style manuals by discipline. Issued in a slightly larger format, this edition is intended primarily for graduate students, but actually has a wider audience. (Turabian's Student's Guide for Writing College Papers, 3rd ed., 1976, is aimed at undergraduates.) The work, a standard for more than 50 years, remains essential. Recommended for all libraries.-M.
