In this set, the new edition of Ion Chromatography (CH, Jan'96, 33-2749), Weiss identifies the target audience as analytical chemists and practitioners who would use this as a resource to help with method development in their work. The book is certainly exhaustive, as it covers every conceivable topic related to the growing and increasingly important topic of ion chromatography. The set includes nine chapters and starts with the theory of chromatography and then discusses anion and cation exchange, ion exchange, and ion-pair chromatography. The last three chapters discuss detectors, quantitative analysis, and applications. The applications chapter is especially strong; it treats many real-world applications and demonstrates the versatility of this technique. Chapter references are collected at the end of the volumes and are quite thorough. The set is not for beginners; readers should have some background in chromatography and preferably some in ion chromatography in order to fully appreciate all that this set has to offer. It is for analytical chemists who have an interest in or need for ion chromatography. ^BSumming Up: Highly recommended. Graduate students through professionals. J. A.
