Summary:Jim Stowell (William), a dedicated district attorney, convinced that those who kill should be executed. During the course of one of his cases--professor McAllen (Morgan), in a paroxysm of jealousy, murdered his wife--Stowell experiences a sense of foreboding. At home his neglected lonely wife, Lucy (Patrick) has riveted her attention to a young man. Stowell's home life closely matches that of the prosecuted professor, as does his enraged reaction to Lucy's apparent betrayal. The realization of his own culpability brings compassion to him, he appreciates McAllen's derangement and reorients his prosecution, no longer seeking a first-degree murder charge.
