In the Dec. 9, 1846 issue, G. Bailey announces that he is moving to Washington D.C., where the Herald and Philanthropist would be continued as the National era; Bailey became the junior editor of the Era. Messrs. Sperry and Brewster had bought Bailey's daily paper, the Morning herald, and with it received permission to begin a new paper, the Cincinnati weekly herald.
