Including researchers and physicians working with animal and human subjects in laboratory, field, and clinic settings, the contributors of the 16 essays in this ambitious volume review and summarize current research on aggression from a variety of perspectives. Although the primary focus is on the biology of aggression, several chapters are devoted to psychological, sociocultural, and environmental influences--a range of topics that results in coverage much broader than the title suggests. Although less successful as an aid to understanding and preventing violence--because few chapters deal specifically with the topic, leaving inferences and applications up to the reader--the volume successfully conveys the recent advances in aggression research and illustrates the value of multidisciplinary approaches to the study of complex behaviors. ^BSumming Up: Highly recommended.
