The first bibliography and iconography of performance costume, this work covers all theater history, ancient times through July 1996. International in scope, it includes Asia and the Pacific as well as Europe, Africa, and the Americas. All types of sources, both traditional and nontraditional, were used, including memoirs of performers that mention costumes, collections of caricatures, and souvenir programs. The four indexes cover designers, costumers, and mask and wig makers; titles of stage productions; performers; and authors and people mentioned in source notes, such as producers and directors. Entries include author, title, collation, illustrations, library code, place of publication, imprint, date, theses (if applicable), and notes. A highly specialized work, most appropriate for graduate students and researchers/faculty. D. Richards Minnesota State University--Mankato
