Summary: | This story tells of events that led to the Chicago race riots of 1919. A young black sharecropper leaves the South during World War I and becomes a laborer in the Chicago stockyards, and, along with other little-known stockyard workers of different ethnic backgrounds, he attempts to form an interracial industrial union in the face of growing conflict.
