Summary:Thomas Douglas, the 5th Earl of Selkirk, was born June 20, 1771 and died April 8, 1820. He was born at Saint Mary's Isle, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, but was most noteworthy as a Scottish philanthropist who sponsored immigrant settlements in Canada at the Red River Colony.
