Summary:Presents a synthesis of the past and the present by dramatizing biblical and Homeric tales in a contemporary setting. The dramatic intensity is heightened in the Polish Laboratory Theater production which Grotowski sets in the Auschwitz (Oʹswȩcim) concentration camp instead of the Krakow Cathedral of the 1904 production. Preceded in the film by Lewis Freedman's introduction and Peter Brook's comments on the significance of Grotowski's setting.
