These proceedings consist of papers of the First European Workshop on Paediatric Osteology.The aim of this workshop was to evaluate current experience with childhood bone diseases from multi-disciplinary points of view. New data on the development of the skeletal system in childhood received special emphasis. Current results and methods of molecular biology and new genes in skeletal diseases as chondrodysplasias, disorders of calcium and phosphate metabolism and osteoporosis are presented. The different methods of bone densitometry, their problems and normative data in childhood are introduced. Altogether many new aspects and possiblilties have been shown which could lead to improvement in the diagnostic and therapeutic care of patients with childhood skeletal disease.
