| Summary: | This unique book is intended for those who wish to develop a framework for thinking about ethics in practice. Paul Dokecki, a psychologist interested in community, clinical and developmental psychology, speaks beyond that discipline to develop a human science ethical theory that incorporates the latest ethics- related thinking in the humanities, philosophy of action, and social phenomenology. Few books that are related to professional ethics go beyond how to' or casebook orientations. In this work, Dokecki explores the place of value and ethics in the professional's life world. While ethics is typically viewed as a separable aspect of professional practice to be invoked only when necessary, Dokecki's thesis is that the professions -- both in their interventions and in their systematic inquiry -- must be understood as ethical to the core, and that professionals should understand their professional ethical obligations in the context of the human condition.
