Jacobs provides an introduction to dinosaurs and how these animals entered Texas history. Throughout, he focuses on individuals, many of whom were amateurs or professional collectors as well as the few museum curators who worked in Texas and on both dinosaurs and related reptiles. The main text (three chapters) traces the Texas history of dinosaurs, or those in neighboring states. Throughout, Jacobs explains in conversational style the salient points of anatomy and the adaptations that make the anatomy and behavior of dinosaurs so fascinating. A chapter on extinctions considers several hypotheses. Some illustrations are not-too-accurate color restorations; many of the photographs are muddy. General. D.
