O'Hara, founder of the O'TEK Enterprises consulting firm, provides entrepreneurs with the tools to develop and implement, from start-up through growth and maturity, a business's planning and control process. The author draws from the traditions of accounting, advertising, finance, management, and marketing to develop a practical presentation that can be adapted to the reader's needs. The writing style is concise, and excellent use is made of illustrative materials. The appendix provides an example of a complete hypothetical business plan. An integrated DOS computer disk requiring a word processor and Lotus 1-2-3 software or its equivalent enables the user to explore a variety of scenarios by modifying the book's questionnaires, spreadsheets, and guidelines. Business Plans Handbook, ed. by Kristin Kahrs and Karin E. Koek (CH, Jun'95), in contrast, assembles without analysis the complete plans of 33 small businesses. This book will be of interest to the business practitioner as well as to libraries supporting collections in small business and entrepreneurial studies.
