Vickers and Yarrow, both British, have written an excellent monograph on the privatization of British industry that has occurred during the Thatcher administration. They have also written an excellent textbook on recent economic findings in the area of market failure and natural monopolies. The initial section of the book is the textbook. The authors bring together recent theoretical and empirical findings in the area of natural monopolies. This section is technical and is written for professional economists and graduate students. It gives arguments both for and against privatization. The second, larger section is less technical and discusses the privatization process that has been carried out; this section is rich in institutional detail. Full cloth cover and sewn binding.
