This collection of essays and papers by Gregory Vlastos (1907-1991) constitutes a fitting memorial to his remarkable career. The first volume consists of 17 contributions, which follow a very useful introduction setting forth how Vlastos played a significant role (matched only by G.E.L. Owen) in transforming the recent study of ancient Greek philosophy. The second volume contains contributions followed by a full bibliography of the works of Gregory Vlastos. Each volume is completed by an index locorum and a general index. All the contributions have been previously published, as the acknowledgments in each volume meticulously spell out, but they appeared over a large stretch of space and time and it is convenient, useful, and instructive to have them within these volumes. A valuable acquisition. Undergraduate; graduate; faculty. N. A. Greenberg; Oberlin College
