Published on the occasion of the World Conference on Human Rights in June 1993, this bibliography contains approximately 9,000 entries from the UN Bibliographic Information System database. They constitute "the essential references to the most significant documents" on human rights produced by the UN over the ten-year period. The five paperback volumes will be augmented by annual updates and, eventually, by a CD-ROM product. A future companion set will cover a variety of publishers worldwide. Volume 1 is a "Main List By Category," including sections on "violations and threats to the enjoyment of human rights" and "self-determination of peoples." Subcategories include "Namibia question," "disabled persons," and "terrorism and hostage taking." Volumes 2-5 are author indexes listing personal names, agencies and countries, and alphabetical subject indexes. All indexes give the full title and the UN document number. Anything that provides better access to UN documents is welcome. The current world focus on human rights and the increased activities of the UN makes this a valuable addition to all library collections. J. Drueke; University of Nebraska-Lincoln
