In this well-researched biography of the founder of osteopathy, Trowbridge demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of the history of American medicine, as well as awareness of the leading secondary works in the field. Andrew Taylor Still's life is thoroughly described in this work, which is based on a wide variety of primary as well as secondary sources. The book is quite interesting, and as the first scholarly biography of Still, it is important to historians of medicine and science. More than 40 illustrations add life to the book, which concludes with an appendix, the "Andrew Taylor Still Family Album." This includes genealogical information going back to Still's parents, and also including descendants of Still who are still alive. This important contribution to the history of American medicine is recommended for large public libraries and academic collections at the upper-division and graduate levels. -M. Kaufman, Westfield State College
