Summary:For generations, the influence of later medieval Franciscans on subsequent scholarly developments has been widely acknowledged. However, the legacy of early Franciscan thought, as it developed in Franciscan thinkers who worked in the first half of the 13th century, remains largely unknown. In this study, leading scholars of both periods in the Franciscan intellectual tradition join forces to illustrate the unique role that the early Franciscan tradition played in forming the later Franciscan tradition and the traditions that it influenced in turn. --Back Cover.
