Summary:The treatise De adverbio is one of the four monographs that tradition has preserved for us from the work of Apollonius Dyscole, an Alexandrian grammarian of the second century AD. This systematic study of the adverb, which formed part of a vast collection of technical treatises devoted to parts of the sentence, is not only our oldest witness on the subject; it was a leading reference for the whole of the later grammatical tradition, in the Greek and Latin domains, at least until the end of the Byzantine Middle Ages.
