| Summary: | The diagnostic use of the word-association test, the Rorschach test, and the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) are discussed in this volume, approximately 60% of the book being devoted to a detailed analysis of findings obtained in various clinical groups with the Rorschach test. The word-association test results are analyzed with reference to popular reactions, close reactions, distant reactions, reaction time, responses to traumatic as opposed to nontraumatic stimulus words, and a comparison of responses originally elicited by a stimulus word with responses elicited on a second administration of the test. The TAT is treated largely qualitatively. Trends appearing in the TAT that are of diagnostic importance for several clinical categories are reviewed. In the discussion of the Rorschach test, the scoring and interpretation follow the basic schema proposed by Rorschach, though a number of refinements in scoring are introduced. This test seems to provide the best single diagnostic tool of the battery employed. For ready reference, diagnostic analyses are given in which individual cases are summarized with a notation of the Rorschach signs pointing to the diagnosis finally made for each patient.
