Summary:Physician and college president Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick was born on June 17, 1971, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He graduated high school at the age of 14, and enrolled in Howard University in 1988, at the age of sixteen. In 1994, he received his dual B.S. and M.D. degrees. In 2006, he returned to Howard University as the associate professor in the department of surgery at Howard University Hospital. In 2012, he was named provost of Howard University, and became the president of the university in 2014. Frederick has authored numerous research publications, editorials, abstracts and other scientific exhibitions, and has also served as a member of a number of professional and scientific societies. He has received many awards and honors for his work, and was recognized by Congress for his contributions in addressing health disparities among African Americans and historically underrepresented groups in 2014.
