Summary: | Publicist and model Dori Wilson was born on October 15, 1943 in Winona, Mississippi. At the age of seven, her family moved to Chicago. Wilson attended Hyde Park High School and Roosevelt University before beginning to model in 1964. Wilson was the first African American to be used in live fashion modeling in Chicago. In 1968, Wilson joined Foote, Cone & Belding advertising agency, working with Sears, Roebuck & Company. In 1970, she was promoted to director of fashion and casting. While in advertising, she continued to model, working with everyone from Gucci to the Girl Scouts and was chosen twice as one of the Chicago Tribune's Top Ten Chicago Models. Wilson left Foote, Cone & Belding to start Dori Wilson Public Relations in 1980. In 1997, the book Doing It For Ourselves: Success Stories of African American Women in Business featured a section on her accomplishments.
