Summary:University president and college basketball coach Harrison B. Wilson was born on April 21, 1925 in Amsterdam, New York. After serving two and a half years in the Navy from 1945-1947, Wilson received his B.S. degree from Kentucky State University in 1949. He received his M.A. degree and his D.H.S. degree in health science and administration from Indiana University. From 1951 to 1967, Wilson worked as a professor, administrator and coach at Jackson State College. In 1967, Wilson became Department Chair and Professor of Health and Physical Education at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. After working at Fisk University as the assistant to the president for several years, he was hired as president of Norfolk State University in Virginia from 1975 to 1997. Upon his retirement, Dominion Energy Company named Wilson as an honoree in their Strong Men & Women, Excellence in Leadership series.
