|a Conductor and professor Julius P. Williams was born in Bronx, New York in 1954. He attended public schools in New York City, including the High School for the Performing Arts, from which he graduated in 1972. In high school, his musical career blossomed, taking part in the All-City Concert Choir program, studying under masters like jazz drummer Max Roach. A classical pianist and composer-conductor, Williams also mastered jazz, gospel and popular music forms. Williams penned operas and works for orchestras and chamber ensembles, for dance, chorus, musical theatre and film. Obtaining an impressive record and reputation, his work was performed by the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony. Known for his informal and informative style of teaching, Williams has taught music at many universities, including serving as professor of composing and conducting at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Williams and his wife Lenora Williams, a doctor, lived in Ellington, Connecticut.
