Summary: | Entrepreneur and civil rights lawyer Nathan G. Conyers was born on July 3, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan. He earned B.A. and J. D. degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Conyers began his legal career as a special assistant attorney to the Michigan State Attorney General, then as a closing attorney for the Veteran's Administration and the Small Business Administration. In 1960, he entered private practice, joining the firm of Keith, Conyers, Anderson, Brown and Wahls, which specialized in civil rights litigation. In 1970, Conyers and his brother, U.S. Congressman John Conyers, opened a Ford dealership in inner city Detroit. In 1979, with the assistance of Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr., Conyers established the Ford Lincoln Mercury Black Dealers Association.
