Summary: | TV journalist Belva Davis was born on October 13, 1932. She began her career as a free-lance journalist working for Jet magazine. Her career in broadcasting began at radio station KSAN, reading newspaper clips on the air. In 1966, Davis was hired as a news anchor on KPIX-TV, San Francisco's CBS affiliate in 1966, making her the first female African American television reporter on the West Coast. Davis also hosted and helped to create All Together Now, one of the country's first ethnic-focused primetime public affairs programs. In 1977, she left KPIX to work at the PBS affiliate in San Francisco, KQED. She anchored A Closer Look and Evening Edition. She was also an anchor and urban affairs specialist for KRON-4, where she worked full time until 1999. She received many awards, including the Northern California Chapter of National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award. Davis retired in 2012. |
