Summary:Music executive Vivian Scott Chew was born on May 14, 1958, in the Queens neighborhood of Far Rockaway, New York, to Mamie Murphy and William Scott. She attended Georgetown University from 1976 to 1977. Chew entered the music business as a personal assistant to entertainment attorney Louise West and then to singer, songwriter and producer Kashif. In 1985, she was named president of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, becoming the first African American female to hold that position. She was hired as the head of artists and repertoire for Polygram Records in 1987. Chew was later named vice president of urban music for Sony/550 Records and then vice president of artists and repertoire for Epic Records from 1991 to 1997. She also launched her own music marketing company, TimeZone International. Her clients have included noted R&B artists such as Jill Scott, Brian McKnight and India Arie.
