|a Dancer and dance instructor Homer Bryant was born on the Isle of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands in 1950. He attended the Jacob's Pillow Dance School, where he caught the attention of dancer and choreographer Arthur Mitchell. Mitchell invited Bryant to study with the Dance Theater of Harlem. Bryant began his professional career touring with the company in 1972. In 1978, Bryant performed in several other well-known dance and theatrical productions, such as the Broadway musical Timbuktu! and the film The Wiz. Bryant then came to Chicago on tour and danced for a short period with Maria Tallchief's Chicago City Ballet. In 1981, Bryant assumed leadership of the Dance Theater of Harlem's pre-professional workshop ensemble. Four years later, Bryant retired and moved to Chicago, where he started his own school, the Bryant Ballet. In 1997, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley renamed Bryant's school the Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center.
