Summary:Publisher Linda Johnson Rice was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 22, 1958. By age seven, she was traveling to Europe with her mother, Eunice Johnson, to select couture fashion for the Ebony Fashion Fair Show. After completing her degree in journalism from University of Southern California in 1981, Rice was named vice president and fashion coordinator of Ebony magazine. She earned her M.B.A. degree from Northwestern in 1987, and became the president and chief operating officer of Johnson Publishing, until she was promoted and named CEO in 2002. In this role, she launched Fashion Fair Cosmetics. Rice has been the recipient of many awards and served on the board of directors of several companies and organizations. She co-chaired a council that oversaw the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington. Ebony media was sold to Texas-based CVG Group in 2016, but returned as CEO in 2017.
