Summary:Photographer Jason Miccolo Johnson was born on November 21, 1956 in Hayti, Missouri, growing up in Memphis, Tennessee. He started his college education at Memphis State University before relocating to Washington, D.C. and earning his B.A. degree in journalism from Howard University. A largely self-taught photographer, Johnson worked as the director of the photography lab for USA Today before entering the world of freelance. His portfolio included portraits of well-known world leaders Thurgood Marshall and Nelson Mandela, and his clients were corporations such as McDonald's and Anheuser-Busch. He was chosen as a photographer for both of President Bill Clinton's inaugurations. He was active in civic organizations such as Beacon House in Washington, DC, and lectured on photography at conferences and universities throughout the United States. Johnson published more than fifteen books, including Soul Sanctuary: Images of the African American Worship Experience.
