Easterbrook (emer., Western Washington Univ.) offers an interesting but uneven compendium of papers by the most vocal deniers of CO^D[2-driven climate change and global warming; it presents their views, data, and interpretations of various data sets. The book's purpose is to show that Earth is actually in a cooling, not warming, phase and that the increased concentration of CO^D[2 in the atmosphere due to fossil fuel use cannot cause global warming. The volume is presented as a scientific analysis of available data; however, there are several frustrating issues that detract from the authors' case and leave the reader wondering if these things are intentional or simple oversights. These include graphs where the axes are not labeled well enough for one to know what is being shown, colored areas under curves designated as "cooling" or "warming" that lack a discussion of the criteria or baseline used for labeling them as such, and presentation of incomplete or modified data sets whose modifications are inadequately explained. Some papers also appear to be more concerned with defaming noted climate experts who support the concept of CO^D[2-driven climate change than with presenting cogent arguments refuting those claims, which detracts from the credibility of the overall presentation.
