Summary:"The primary purpose of this workbook is to help you in your introductory venture into psychology. Although the fullest use can be made of the workbook in class groups or quiz sections, it can be used almost as effectively by the individual student working alone. Some sections are designed to help you study and review the material in the text, and to test yourself on your knowledge. Other sections ask you to apply your knowledge to additional problems and projects. A few words of explanation concerning the design of the material should increase its usefulness. Each chapter includes two groups of words and concepts for you to define. In most cases you should be able to formulate definitions from reading the text. If you are in doubt, use the Glossary in the back of the textbook, which gives brief definitions of most of these concepts. Your "Definitions" lists will be useful for periodic reviews. Several pages of each chapter are devoted to a "Visual Survey" of important problems and topics presented in the text. The essay and discussion questions cover a wide range of subjects, only some of which have been specifically discussed and illustrated in the text. The completion questions follow the text more closely. They are based on figures adapted from the text, with the express purpose of helping you to review several important topics. No keys are given for the completion questions; you can check your work in the text. The self-quiz is designed primarily for individual study, and should be postponed until the other work in the chapter has been completed. Each quiz includes a group of multiple-choice questions which are based on illustrations in the textbook, as well as a number of true-false questions grouped according to the important topics covered in the chapter. Keys for correcting the self-quizzes are to be found in the back of this book. Many of the projects can be carried out by one individual working alone, although in some cases a project is designed for use by a group in class or quiz section. Most of the chapters suggest a reading project, usually based on articles in easily available scientific magazines. For the student interested in taking further courses in psychology, the reading projects and suggested supplementary readings at the end of each chapter are especially valuable"--Preface.
