The fall of the anti-revolutionary Gang of Four in October 1976 symbolized the end of the 10-year Cultural Revolution. During the two years leading up to the convention of the 11th CPC Central Committee, Party cadres and the masses were fueled by revolutionary and reconstruction activities, going all out to expose the guilt of the anti-revolutionary groups of Lin and Jiang. The reorganization of the Party and rectification of unjust cases began alongside the restoration of industrial and agricultural production as well as scientific and cultural education. Despite this, the eradication of political and ideological chaos created during the Cultural Revolution, extended by the left-leaning ideology of Hua Guofeng during his tenure as President, was not without hassles. Not until the 11th CPC Central Committee in December 1978 were obstacles to the rectification of the Cultural Revolution and left-leaning ideologies overcome.
