A well-crafted reduction of the standard work in the field, The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church (3rd ed., CH, Nov'97), this work, only 30 percent as long, contains 95 percent of the entries in the parent volume in a readable, double-column format. Each entry is a fourth to half the length of the original; bibliographies are omitted. Cross-references are indicated by asterisks next to terms in the text. General readers and lower-division undergraduates should find this work more helpful than the larger volume. Recommended for undergraduate and public libraries. G.
