This excellent work is a rich mine of invaluable information about an important company, amplifying Cyprian Blagden's History of the Stationers' Company (1960). In addition to an introduction explaining the importance of the Company, Robin Myers contributes a detailed glossary of terms and an "Analytical Catalogue of Volumes in the Muniment Room of Stationers' Hall," which has 12 sub-sections. A "Register of Supplementary Documents and Addendum Series I" (briefly described by Sidney Hodgson in The Library, 4th series, 25, 1944: 23-26), is followed by an "Addendum to Series I." Major A.C.S. Hall, the archivist, has compiled a "Register of Documents of Stationers' Hall: Series II"--these are mainly legal in nature. There follows Peter Isaac's compilation, a "Name Index to Register Series in II." There are eight appendixes, and an extensive general index. The book contains 14 well-reproduced illustrations and is clearly typeset. Robin Myers's work supplements Chadwyck Healey's 115 microfilm reels of the records, which she edited in 1986. She has produced an invaluable document for the study of printing, archives, and publishing history with ramifications for Shakespearian study and the history of bibliography. Indispensable for all graduate and research libraries. -W. Baker, Northern Illinois University
