Summary:This dissertation describes organometallic and chemoenzymatic efforts to synthesize biaryl compounds via C-H bond cleavage. A key goal of these efforts is to achieve site-selectivities that are different from the bulk of contemporary C-H functionalization methods. Toward this end, methods involving site-selectivity derived from steric effects between a substrate and catalyst and through supramolecular control are described.
