Human Impact on the Environment is more of an illustrated encyclopedia, rather than a world atlas. The work is divided into six broad chapters that outline the manner in which humanity has influenced the environment with various activities and behaviors. In each chapter, Govorushko (Far Eastern Federal Univ., Vladivostok, Russia) discusses these activities, which include the development and use of electrical power, industry, mining, agriculture, transportation, and other miscellaneous ventures. Each section contains text that is concise and informative. Many of Govorushko's points are illustrated well and presented with over 300 photographs and 60 maps. Nonetheless, the maps are small and very difficult to read (other than for sweeping generalizations). The work contains a fine index, and each section lists multiple print and electronic references for additional reading. This book is recommended for all libraries, but it would not be considered an essential acquisition. Summing Up: Recommended. All readers. --John C. Stachacz, Wilkes University
