Notes:The plates ("large illustrations") consist of 2 chromolithographs, signed "Vincent Brooks, chromolith."; 4 "woodcuts" (i.e. wood engravings) by J. Cooper after P. Justyne, with fawn tinted background; and 14 photographs, all ca. 12 x 9 cm, mounted. The 70 "small illustrations", all in text, consist of wood engravings (many by Justyne and Cooper) and woodcuts.
The photographs, by Cundall and Fleming, are found in at least two forms: as albumen prints (as described by Gernsheim and found in Fogg Museum Fine Arts Library copy, seen via Google Books); or as Woodburytypes, mounted on leaves within a printed frame, with imprint at extreme foot: Printed by the Woodbury Permanent Photographic Printing Company, Hereford Lodge, Hereford Square, S.W. (as found in Brown University Library copy).
